Investment in Early Childhood Education Pays Off

Read the great NY Times profile of Oklahoma's investment in the future -- our children. The paper profiled a Tulsa program called Tulsa Educare (a Tulsa Educare school is pictured, above.)

We have one of the best preschool system in the country and Governor Henry is making wise investments in Oklahoma. During the State of the State address, he proposed expanding early childhood opportunites to 3-year-olds. Governor Henry knows it is critical for our state's health that ALL Oklahomans have an opportunity to succeed in life.

According to the Times piece, "James J. Heckman, a Nobel Prize-winning economist at the University of Chicago, argues that spending on preschool ultimately pays for itself. Early childhood education is so important that it makes workers more productive and reduces crime. No other form of education spending...brings nearly the same bang for the buck."
